From time to time God tests our faith. Those who seek after God know that this is a valuable thing. King David sought God’s testing when he wrote, “Test me, Lord, and try me, examine my heart and my mind: for I have always been mindful of your unfailing love and have lived in reliance on your faithfulness” – Psalm 26:2-3. To be tested means to prove by trial. Trials can be anything from small irritations to severe afflictions or attacks from Satan, all of which God allows. God knows our hearts, and all things, so it’s not that He needs to test us for His sake. Trials are meant to develop in us a perseverance that leads to a mature faith. And mature faith is evident when we live truly by faith and not by what we see, which shows us and others that our faith is real. Obviously, David understood that the testing of his faith was a good thing. The apostle Paul also recognized that God’s ways are good, when he said, “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” – Romans 8:28 ESV.
