Walking with God has been funny lately. He’s not making it easy, but He keeps making it possible. And that’s the life I signed on for; grace and faith. Grace doesn’t make things easy; but grace makes the impossible, possible, and it is from here where we get all our testimonies. Our testimonies glorify God. And if “Man’s chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy Him for ever,” the battle for me becomes clear. I don’t always enjoy Him. The battle is to fix my eyes on Jesus, who is the author and completer of my faith. If my eyes are on the situation and my limitation, during these times where grace is sorely needed, I don’t find myself enjoying Him, (even if the situation may still be glorifying Him). I want it easy. But if during these same times of much needed grace, I fix my eyes on Him, then the joy of the Lord is my strength. His will gets done either way; but with my eyes fixed on the Lord, I can both glorify Him and be enjoying Him at the same time. Faith comes from hearing; we hear and obey. His calling to us is higher than we can achieve, and so He gives us grace. If we keep our eyes fixed on the Lord, we enjoy the process. Either way, He will be glorified. But our “chief end” is to both glorify Him and to enjoy Him.
“… fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” — Hebrews 12:2

“Man’s chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy him forever” is a quote that comes from the Westminster Shorter Catechism and is not a phrase pulled directly from Scripture, but is a principle throughout the Bible of man being created in order to bring glory to God, which makes giving glory to God our primary calling, by way of enjoying Him forever. Read 1 Corinthians 10:31, 1 Chronicles 16:29, Colossians 1:19-20, John 17:24, Habakkuk 3:17-18, and 1 Peter 1:8.
