“Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” said Jesus, “but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him.” — John 9:3. If we only consider the ramifications, we might say, ‘Shucks, that man got a raw deal! He has to be born blind just so God can heal him?’ But if we humbly consider that this man became one in whom God displayed His greatness, we may remember that in our best prayers, this is what we pray for ourselves; that God would be glorified through our lives. This man’s situation then becomes rather enviable. He goes on to testify about Jesus, to be cast out of his religion, only to find himself worshipping at the feet of Jesus Himself. And here we are 2,000 plus years later, reading about this man’s display of God’s glory and goodness, and his own personal faithfulness, for all of us to see.
